What Foods to Avoid When You Have Morning Sickness......

Try to avoid fatty foods, as they take longer to digest, especially during pregnancy. Rich, spicy, acidic, and fried foods can irritate your stomach and cause heartburn. Other foodstuffs to avoid are high fat and seasoned food as both smelling and eating these items can increase your nausea levels. Caffeine intake should be low due to the stimulation of the gastric secretions and strong vegetables such as Brussel sprouts, and broccoli should be avoided because of their strong smell when cooking.

In addition you must avoid the foods thought to be unsafe in pregnancy:

Limit oily fish to twice a week
Due to potentially high levels of mercury. Sharkfish and sword fish should be avoided completely

Foods with high Vitamin A content.
Vitamin A in high doses has been demonstrated to cause birth defects. Therefore liver shhould be avoided as well as high dose vitamin A supplements.

Soft, mould-ripened and blue veined cheese
Cheeses such as Brie, Stilton and Camembert should be avoided because they can contain the potentially poisonous listeria bug.

Anything unpasteurized
Unpasteurized eggs, milk, cheese and vegetables can lead to toxoplasmosis - an infection caused by a microscopic parasite that can live inside the cells of humans and animals, especially cats and farm animals.

Underdone or lightly cooked eggs, meat or poultry
Raw or uncooked eggs, meat and poultry can contain a variety of bugs that could seriously harm your unborn baby.

Alcohol and coffee
You can still enjoy your favourite drinks during pregnancy but only in moderation. You should drink no more than three cups of coffee a day and ideally only one of two glasses of wine a week. However, to be safe you really shouldn't drink any alcohol at all until after your little bundle of fun makes his or her first appearance.
