Stress Makes Morning Sickness Worse
Sure, it’s easy to tell you to reduce your stress,
but actually doing it can be difficult. If you are
experiencing morning sickness, remember that being
stressed can cause or increase your nausea. Take a
few deep breaths. You may want to learn a few simple
relaxation techniques, like lying down and relaxing
every muscle in your body a little at a time or using
a certain collection of music that can trigger relaxation
for you. Talk it out. If you’re stressed about
something, it can help to talk it over with a friend,
your partner, or someone who is familiar with the additional
demands of pregnancy.
Another great stress reliever is walking. Walk around
the block, or in a park if you find one nearby. Fresh
air can help a great deal in easing morning sickness.
Don’t overschedule yourself. Since a new baby
requires a lot of your attention, now is a good time
to start paring down demands on your time. It can be
difficult, but learn to say no.
Pick your battles. A little perspective goes a long way in keeping your stress levels lower. Ask yourself if the stressor is going to matter tomorrow, or even an hour from now. If not, let it go. If you have circumstances in your life that are creating serious stress for you, you may need to talk to someone who can help, whether it be your doctor, midwife, or a counselor. Sometimes it helps for an outside person to give their perspective on a situation so you can get a handle on it.
